Opening a business doesn’t need to be expensive or need you to have a lot of money, especially when you are an artist. Here are some tips to help you open up your own art business with no money.
1. Never Give Up
No matter what business you are trying to open, the most important rule is to never give up. While money makes it easier to open a business, and create art, the lack of money is not a reason to give up. There are a lot of things that you can do make your dream a reality.
2. Identify Why You Need the Money, and If You Even Need Money
When you want to open a business, it is easy to get caught up with thinking about what you ‘need’. Most of these items are nice to have, but most are not needed. Make a list of all the things you think you ‘need’ and then think about the alternatives that you can use.
3. Save Money to Live On
If you are going to leave your job to become an artist, you should have at least 3 to 6 months of money to survive on. Most businesses will need this time to build sales and have activity. However, it’s a painful truth that most artists are not able to quit their day jobs for years.
4. Use Free Services
The internet is full of both low-cost and free services that you can use when you are looking to open your business. There is always the option to upgrade to higher cost services or products when you have made the money to afford these products.
5. DIY It
There are a lot of things that you can do yourself. There are many web hosts that allow you to build your own custom website. As an artist, you can create your own logo and other brand images. It would be nice if you could have a professional do all the work, but when you want to spend little to no money, doing the work yourself may be the faster way to open your art business.
6. Get a Loan
If you need money for your business, you will need to get a loan. It’s okay. If you have carefully looked at all the other options, and you still need money, you should look into both personal and small business loans.
While it is nice to have a lot of money to invest in your art work, you do not need that much money to start a business. If you are planning to sell your art, take opening your business in small steps, and use what you already have. Since you are an artist, think creatively and use items for more than one purpose.
